Fuel filters serve a vital function in today's modern, tight-tolerance engine fuel systems. Unfiltered fuel may contain several kinds of contamination, for example paint chips and dirt that has been knocked into the tank while filling, or rust caused by moisture in a steel tank. If these substances are not removed before the fuel enters the system, they will cause rapid wear and failure of the fuel pump and injectors, due to the abrasive action of the particles on the high-precision components used in modern injection systems. Fuel filters also improve performance, as the fewer contaminants present in the fuel, the more efficiently it can be burnt.
Fuel filters need to be maintained at regular intervals. This is usually a case of simply disconnecting the filter from the fuel line and replacing it with a new one, although some specially designed filters can be cleaned and reused many times. If a filter is not replaced regularly it may become clogged with contaminants and cause a restriction in the fuel flow, causing an appreciable drop in engine performance as the engine struggles to draw enough fuel to continue running normally.
Some filters, especially found on diesel engines, are of a bowl-like design which collect water in the bottom (as water is more dense than diesel). The water can then be drained off by opening a valve in the bottom of the bowl and letting it run out, until the bowl contains only diesel. Many fuel filters contain a water sensor to signal to the engine control unit or directly to the driver (lamp on dashboard) if the water reach the warning level. It is especially undesirable for water to be drawn into a diesel engine fuel system, as the system relies on the diesel for lubrication of the moving parts, and if water gets into a moving part which requires constant lubrication (for example an injector valve), it will quickly cause overheating and unnecessary wear. This type of filter may also include a sensor, which will alert the operator when the filter needs to be drained. In proximity of the diesel fuel filter there might be a fuel heater to avoid the forming of paraffin wax (in case of low temperatures) inside the filtrating element which can stop the fuel flow to the engine.

History
Summit Racing Equipment began in 1968, as a part-time, one-person business. As word of the low prices got out, the business grew.1969-1987
In 1969, Summit Racing Equipment opened it first store in Akron, Ohio. The company's early product line included performance parts from Accel, Holley, Mallory, Hurst, Mickey Thompson, and other "big names". Throughout the 70s and 80s, Summit Racing Equipment continued to grow, and the company’s Summit Racing Catalog grew from an annual buyers guide to a bi-monthly publication.
1992-1999
In 1992, the company moved its headquarters to a larger facility in Tallmadge, Ohio. With a larger Retail Store and Distribution Center, the company expanded its product offering to include truck, SUV, and Jeep-specific parts.
In 1998, Summit Racing Equipment opened a second Retail Store and Distribution Center in Sparks, Nevada. That location enabled customers in the western United States to receive parts in one to two days via ground shipping.
To keep up with the high demand for performance and styling parts, the company doubled the size of its facility in 1999. With the new space, Summit Racing Equipment could stock millions of parts from hundreds of manufacturers.
2002-2007
In 2002, the doors of Summit Racing Equipment's new 25,000-square-foot (2,300 m2) Retail Super Store opened in Tallmadge, Ohio. The store is a destination for enthusiasts, with thousands of parts on display, legendary vehicles like Don Garlits' Swamp Rat 32, plus customer-built vehicles on display. A third location, in McDonough, Georgia, opened in 2006. That location solidified the company’s ability to ship throughout most of the United States within 1–2 days via ground shipping.
In 2007, Summit Racing Equipment acquired Genuine Hotrod Hardware, a direct mail company specializing in apparel, decor, gifts and other hot rod lifestyle products.
Retail Stores
There are three Summit Racing Equipment retail locations:All three stores are open from 9 am-9 pm, 7 days a week, and closed on holidays.
Motorsports
Team SummitSummit Racing Equipment sponsors NHRA Pro Stock racers Greg Anderson and Jason Line, and BIGFOOT Monster Truck driver Dan Runte.

Wix 58837 Automatic Transmission Filter Kit

I bought a second hand 2000 oldsmobile Intrigue GX. I want to replace the transmission filter follow the manual's recommendation. I went to some local shop, the filter kit is very expensive. Filter and gasket have the same price. But this kit which includes the filter and the gasket costs less than the filter in my local stores. I gave this kit to my dealer to let them install it for me. After replacement, the accelerate is better than before. I think it is worth the price.
